Description

From 1850 to present, New Orleans history can be seen and studied through the statues that surround and grace the metropolitan area. Ashley Merlin presents this one-of-a-kind photographic guide to the statues of New Orleans.

In Statuesque New Orleans, Ashley Merlin, a locally based photographer, guides the reader on a journey through the history of New Orleans statues and monuments. She presents a unique comprehensive overview of two centuries of statues. Ms. Merlin’s photographs showcase some of the most famous ones as well as those lesser known. She highlights artists as well as the sometimes-controversial histories of each statue and monument.

From war memorials to heroes, from musicians to distinguished sculptors, join Ms. Merlin on her journey of discovery. She explores metropolitan New Orleans’ statuesque scene, from St. Charles Avenue to the Mississippi River and including Kenner and Chalmette. This is a captivating history book for children and parents alike, as well as a practical cultural travel guide.

Featuring 197 color images and 200 pages of history and facts!

A portion of book sales will be used to refurbish and maintain the statues and monuments seen in the book.
