Theron Humphrey & Maddie the coonhound - MADDIE ON THINGS: A Super Serious Project about Dogs and Physics

  • Author Event
03/26/2013 6:00 pm

Please join us when professional photographer and wanderer, Theron Humphrey and Maddie the coonhound, known for their wildly popular Instagram and Tumblr, come to Octavia Books for a presentation and signing featuring their debut book, MADDIE ON THINGS.

In 2011 Theron Humphrey examined his life and, like many people, felt he wasn’t living up to his personal and creative potential. He decided to take a trip across America to meet, photograph and tell the story of one person each day. For company, he brought along his sweet-natured rescue Coonhound, Maddie.

“I figured if Steinbeck had Charley by his side on his American travels, I needed a good dog next to me in my truck,” he said.

While Theron pursued his ambitious plan, he also took photos of Maddie whose mellow nature and uncanny sense of balance made for surprising and captivating photos. Theron shared the resulting images via Instagram and Tumblr to the delight of a rapidly growing group of followers and media outlets like Good Morning America, Wired, Time, and People.

Now Chronicle Books presents MADDIE ON THINGS: A Super-Serious Project About Dogs and Physics which collects Theron’s poignant photos of his beautiful dog and her offbeat poses. As she placidly poses atop bicycles, wood piles, and a watermelon the size of a small car, Maddie’s calm demeanor and amazing talent are a joy to behold.

MADDIE ON THINGS celebrates the special relationship of trust and friendship between a man and his dog that will resonate with dog lovers, photography fans, and anyone who appreciates the quirky hearts (and extraordinary balance) of canines.

Theron Humphrey is a photographer with a rich oral history and yearning to discover those of others. In 2011, he started a Kickstarter-funded project to traverse across the US, meeting and photographing someone new each day. Maddie rides shotgun on all of his adventures.
