Cookbook for the Hungry: A Wickedly Delicious Collection of Recipes and Cooking Tips

By the Northshore Democratic Women's Club
Text by Liz Scott Monaghan (a.k.a. Modine Gunch) and Ann Porter

Not only is this a wickedly delicious collection, as it says on the cover, but it has a serious purpose.

There are quite a few people without enough to eat, even in our well-off conservative Northshore area. Even as we argue the politics of it all, we feel the need to do something. So we are donating all profits from this book to organizations that feed those in need. (Hence the title "Cookbook for the Hungry.")

But we could not resist the temptation to tweak, in a good-natured ladylike way, Republicans who surround us here on the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. We Democratic Women are of the laugh-to-keep-from-crying school of thought. And we laugh a lot. We've also included a lot of comfort food, for obvious reasons.
