Take a magical journey through New Orleans as the littlest fans learn their ABCs with the help of some animal friends! Crawfish creates a costume, Duck dives for doubloons, and many more creatures enjoy the season as part of this fantastical Carnival krewe.


Kelly Murtagh is a mom, Louisiana-native, and an award-winning actress, writer, producer, singer & children's book author who works in film, television, and theatre. She has received multiple awards including the Best Actress Award at Festival South, and the Best Actress Award at the 48 Independent Short Film Festival.

Independent bookstores are not just stores—they are community centers and local anchors run by passionate readers. They are entire universes of ideas that contain the possibility of real serendipity. They are lively performance spaces and quiet places where aimless perusal is a day well spent.

We will be rolling out activities going on all day at Octavia Books. You will be also find some fantastic (and often quirky) literary gifts here created exclusively for Independent Bookstore Day 2022 (see here). We are offering tote bags -- free when you spend $50 on books and merchandise to put inside -- and special Independent Bookstore Day 2022/Octavia Books T-shirts ($5 off for the day), prizes and more.

Set in New Orleans’ Sicilian community during World War II, the story was inspired by little-known historical events -- an engrossing story of wartime love, family secrets, and a young woman’s struggle to chart her own course at an inflection point in American history. The book was a 2019 finalist in the William Faulkner-William Wisdom Creative Writing Competition for a novel-in-progress.
