An intriguing new series introduces the legendary witches of Benevento and the five children who conspire to outwit them.

Benevento, a town in southern Italy, is famous for its witches, who are not broomstick-riding hags but a variety of supernatural beings. Among them are the Janara, who fly about on stormy nights performing mischief; the Clopper, an old witch who chases children through the streets of town; and the Manalonga, who hide in wells and under bridges and try to drag children down. Benevento is an ancient town; a Roman theater is at the center, a castle fortress overlooks the town and the river, and farmland surrounds it.

Grammy-nominated Louisiana musician Yvette Landry entertains with music and a reading from her new children's book, MADAME GRAND DOIGT - a spine-chilling children’s story, brilliantly illustrated and steeped in Cajun tradition.

Marie’s Grandmother Viola always told her stories. Her favorite was of a strange old woman named Madame Grand Doigt (Ma-dahm Grahn Dwah). Legend is, she drifted in the attics of families with children. At night, her long, bony fingers would slink down through the rafters and snatch up any kid who was not doing as told.

“What does she do with the kids once she grabs them?” Marie would ask.

Grandmother Viola never answered.
