Come meet Corinna Luyken, children's author and illustrator of THE BOOK OF MISTAKES.
Zoom meets Beautiful Oops! in this memorable debut about the creative process, and the way in which “mistakes” can blossom into inspiration
One eye was bigger than the other. That was a mistake.
The weird cat-cow-frog thing? Well, it made an excellent bush.
And the inky smudges…they look as though they always meant to be leaves floating gently across the sky.
And so goes The Book of Mistakes—a journey told in minimal, playful text that takes readers through an artist’s idea and the many mistakes she makes while she creates.
As she incorporates accidental splotches, spots, and misshapen things into her art, she transforms her piece in unique and unexpected ways, showing readers that mistakes are defined by how we deal with them. By the book’s end, this story becomes more than an exploration of the creative process—it becomes a meditation on how we are all, indeed, works-in-progress.
Corinna Luyken grew up in different cities along the West Coast. After studying printmaking, creative writing, and dance at Middlebury College in Vermont, she settled in Washington. The Book of Mistakes is her debut picture book.
“At once philosophical and imbued with adventurousness, this picture book lifts to the level of the sublime the idea of putting one’s slip-ups in perspective.”—The Wall Street Journal
