James Ciaravella - CHARITY'S CHILDREN

Join us with James Ciaravella when he comes to present and sign his recent book, CHARITY'S CHILDREN: The Long Days and Nights of the Iron Men. The author, now a retired cardiovascular surgeon originally from New Orleans, graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1968 and trained at Charity Hospital from 1968 through 1977. CHARITY'S CHILDREN uniquely describes the training of a surgeon at Charity and it presents an early history of Charity, and the significant professors on both the LSU and Tulane side who were responsible for much of the hospital's history and prominence. It features significant events that happened in New Orleans( such as the Howard Johnson’s shooting) and how they impacted not only New Orleans but the residents who trained at Charity. Most of all, Ciaravella tells stories and cases that not only he personally experienced, but those from thirty other of his physician contemporaries whom he was able to find and interview.
